An interesting glimpse of the steam railway the Ratty and a gentle walk through the picturesque village of Boot before the real walk begins. This follows Whillan Beck briefly before reaching Eel Tarn, across the peaty/acid fell which has a good selection of herbs and plants, to the River esk. The grand finale is Stanley Force, an amazing waterfall – it can be a slippery walk with plenty of water and rocks, so appropriate footwear needs to be worn.

Length: 5.5 miles
Time taken: 3 – 4 hours
