The Medicine Garden Super Food story

I have been using and recommending superood powders to my patients for many years and recently decided to source and blend my own version. As well as barley and wheat-grass, spirulina, chlorella and kelp I have chosen to include a selection of plants and roots that have traditionally been used to maintain good health in many cultures around the world.

Ingredients

Turmeric
Turmeric is traditionally used as a blood tonic, anti-bacterial, anti inflammatory lowers cholesterol and is an anti oxidant. Excellent for the digestion – may soothe indigestion and aid liver health, particularly by supporting the function of the gall bladder. Traditionally it is also considered to improve the complexion and heal many skin conditions. Traditionally used to reduce the pain and inflammation of rheumatoid arthritis and other painful joint conditions, also may strengthen the joints. Historically used to lower cholesterol and to clear arteries.

Organic wheatgrass, barley grass, spirulina, chlorella, moringa powders (high in amino acids and anti-oxidants).
These ingredients supply useful amounts of: Vitamins A, C, E, B1, B2, B6, folate, zinc, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, manganese and iodine.

Organic Maca powder (Lepidium meyenii)
Good source of: – Dietary fibre, Vitamins C & B6, iron, zinc, potassium, calcium, copper, manganese and iodine.

Traditionally used for Balancing hormones i.e. polycystic ovaries, acne, may promote sexual function and increase fertility, help PMS, menopausal symptoms and increase testosterone levels. Adaptogen – May also increase endurance and energy, improve physical and mental wellbeing.

Potentially can improve thyroid function, regulate the hypothalamus and pituitary function, lower blood sugar and cholesterol. Antioxidant.

Organic Bala powder (Sida cordifolia).
Good source of: – Dietary fibre, Vitamins C & B6, iron, zinc, potassium, calcium, copper, manganese and iodine.

Traditionally used to support: Muscle health. May have an anti-inflammatory effect. Potentially calms nerves, lowers blood pressure and balances blood sugar. Traditionally anti allergic effect especially in relation to asthma and allergies affecting the sinuses. Also reputed to improve memory and protect the liver.

Organic Acai powder.
Traditionally used as an antioxidant, reputed to lower cholesterol, cardio protective, blood thinner, can aid weight loss, improve skin health, aid digestion. May help with respiratory distress, boost the immune system and increase energy and stamina.

Organic Baobab powder.
Traditionally used to balance blood sugar, improve skin health, slow aging, the fibre supports the digestive system.

Organic Chia powder
Essential fatty acids – omega 3, protein, antioxidants and dietary fibre.

Organic Hemp powder.
Amino acids, essential fatty acids.

Organic Beetroot powder.
Mainly contains betaine which may support liver function, metabolise the amino acid homocystine, may prevent heart disease and dry mouth.

Organic Triphala powder (Amalaki, Bibhitaki, Haritaki.
Good level of vitamin C and anti-oxidants.

Traditionally used to support: Digestion by balancing bowel function thereby improving digestion, antioxidant, may speed up healing. Triphala may also have a tonic effect on the liver and immune system, respiratory system. Can remove toxins and rejuvenate tissues.

Kelp powder (Ascophyllum nodosum).
Good amounts of: Protein, dietary fibre, calcium, magnesium, iron, manganese, selenium, molybdenum, iodine and antioxidants.

Traditionally used to: Support thyroid function and protein metabolism. May, boost the immune system.

Organic Fo-Ti (polygonum multiflorum) powder.

Traditionally used to support – Thyroid function, may improve sleep, boost the immune system, increase libido, reduce blood pressure, ease menopausal symptoms, promote fertility, possibly slow aging and restore hair colour.

Probiotics:
lactobacillus rhamnosus , lactobacillus acidophilus, bifidobacterium longum, lactobacillus lactis, bifidobacterium breve, bifidobacterium bifidum.
