A relatively level walk as far as walks go in Cumbria with an interesting variety of scenery. Having said this there is a theme to this walk and it is water - from the fast flowing Skelwith force - it's name derived from the norse for rapid or waterfall in dark forest or where willow grows. To the less vigorous Great Langdale Beck, of course all this depends on rainfall, lots and all the water seen is impressive, a dry spell and even the force is calm. The plants and herbs seen on this walk are mainly water loving although the parts of the walk that take place in the open offer a variety of fell species.
Length: 6 miles
Time taken: 2.5 -3.5 hours
